'ello chums and chummettes, I'm TychoCelchuuu, the resident artist. Scythe and I go way back (I've got a scrotum from him), so when I heard he was looking for an artist to help him out on his game thing I jumped at a chance to let him down. I haven't quite done that yet, but in the process I've churned out some art.

My first job was to replace Scythe's atrocious planets. I have it on good authority that he created these by vomiting straight onto his hard drive after drinking four cups each of 1's and 0's. The results were, to put it lightly, awful to a degree that you don't generally see outside of your nightmares:

So yes, the first order of business was to line those planets up against the wall and shoot them. Their replacements? Shiny new ones.


That's moderately better!

Woot, now our eyes aren't throwing up when we launch the game. I replaced (from left to right) the Terra, Magma, and Gas Giant planets in the original with a Magma, Terra, and Gas Giant of my own. We plan to have multiple versions of each planet, so you won't see the same Terra every time. I've already made a bunch more, but those 3 are the 3 you see. Wee.

What's next? Why, planet after planet, of course, and maybe a starfield or something. I can't wait! If these things look familiar, you may have seen Greg Martin's awesome planet tutorial. About, say, 4 years ago, I discovered this back when I was super new to Photoshop. I don't follow it verbatim today, but it has been quite an "influence" on my skills, at least as far as making planets go. It's a rather specific "skill" but whatever. I even use his nice little texture brush.
